COVID-19 (coronavirus) Library service update

The Libraries are Back with Ready Reads: We Select You Collect

What has been happening since Lockdown?

Our library buildings closed to the public on Friday 20th March and we have been busy during lockdown. Some Library Staff have been part of the Kingston Stronger Together Hub supporting the most vulnerable residents. Others have delivered a successful digital library service to our new and existing customers. With the creation of 175 videos of original content the events programme has been featured on BBC News! We have given access to thousands of e-books, audio books, magazines and newspapers.  We have provided our members with a large collection of content to get them through lock down.

When will we be open?

We know that for some members nothing compares to having a physical book in their hand! With this in mind, this is what you need to know:

  • We are offering a new Ready Reads: We Select You Collect lending service to our customers from 21 July at Surbiton Library. This is an appointment only service running Tuesday to Friday.

  • Next month we hope to offer a quick choice browsing and borrowing service.

This phased approach is to ensure the safety of our staff and customers is maintained. It is important that we can adapt our offer as the situation changes so please check the website regularly for updates.

Service Update 23 July 2020

We apologise for any inconvenience but due to unscheduled maintenance Surbiton Library will be closed on Thursday 23 July, and tomorrow for collections. Please do continue to use the online form or email to order your Ready Reads for collection next week.

How do I use the new Ready Reads: We Select You Collect Service?

  • Please fill in the Google Form with your reading preferences or call us on 020 8547 6254
  • A team member will then safely prepare your selection of books and place them in a paper bag with your name on it.
  • A member of the team will then call you or email you to arrange a date and time for you to come and collect your books.

What if I have books to Return?

Some of you will have books that you have not been able to return due to the lock down restrictions. No fines will be issued for the lockdown period and all return dates have been extended to 1st September 2020. If you arrange a Ready Reads: We Select You Collect appointment please do bring your books back if you wish.
