Update on Cambridge Road Estate
One Norbiton takes over community halls
As of 2 January 2019, One Norbiton has been running both the Queen Mary and Piper Halls as part of a community pilot. The aim of this is to increase hall useage for the community with any excess income returned to the council that can be spent on agreed community activities. There will be a hall users group which any resident can join - please contact One Norbiton for more information on 0208 439 1937 or [email protected]
Should you wish to book one of the halls, you can do so through the CRE Halls website. Charges will increase in April in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI).
CRE Regeneration Programme
Over the past 16 months, Kingston Council has been working hard to find a company to partner with for the proposed regeneration of Cambridge Road Estate (CRE).
As part of this work, we set up a panel to evaluate interested companies - this panel included residents from CRE. We also held a 'bidders day' for all estate residents to look at and discuss three different plans.
We'd like to thank all those residents and chairs who have been involved so far for their valuable contributions.
Working with residents, we have selected Countryside Properties (UK) Ltd to be the preferred bidder and move us to the next stage. We will be working with Countryside over the next few months to finalise the contract. This was agreed at Strategic Housing and Planning Committee in March 2019 and is now subject to a final decision at Full Council on 24 April. At that point, Countryside can begin to meet with residents and the council to start agreeing on the overall design of the new estate (known as the masterplan).
The council won't go ahead with these plans without CRE residents' support and we aim to hold a resident ballot in autumn 2019. The detail of how the ballot will be organised is at an early stage and we will work with residents to plan this process.
In the meantime if you have any questions you can contact the Regeneration Team at their office at 2 Tadlow, or by email at [email protected] or 020 8547 5600 ext 4421.
