Council Tax Reduction Scheme

What is Council Tax Reduction?

Before 1 April 2013 assistance with your Council Tax was paid in the form of a nationally administered benefit called Council Tax Benefit.

This was abolished from April 2013 and since then each Local Authority has created a localised scheme of help now known as Council Tax Reduction.

Council Tax Reduction is support towards paying your Council Tax. If you have a low income, you may be entitled to a reduction on your Council Tax. The maximum reduction you can receive is 100 per cent of your Council Tax liability but this depends on factors such as your income, savings and the size of your household.
