English for speakers of other languages
What's on offer?
We offer English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) classes for adults who are permanently settled in the UK.
'Permanently settled' includes people who have indefinite leave to remain, exceptional leave to remain and those with humanitarian leave to remain.
ESOL learners need to come for an assessment before enrolment. Classes follow the ESOL Skills for Life curriculum leading to ESB certificates in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing at each level (Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3 and Level 1).
ESOL for employment
If you are looking for a job and receive active benefits, you may be able to join a more intensive ESOL course. You will learn CV writing, job search skills and interview skills.
ESOL courses are free for people on active benefits (Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance under the Work Related Activity Group). Classes are held at the King Charles Centre in Surbiton and you should to be referred by your Job Centre advisor for an assessment.
