What happens to your recycling and rubbish?

We recognise the efforts that residents go to sort out their household rubbish for recycling and composting.

To ensure your efforts are worthwhile, we go to great lengths to ensure your recycling and rubbish is reused, recycled or disposed of in the most cost-effective and environmentally sustainable way possible.

We are part of the London Waste Partnership along with the boroughs of Croydon, Merton and Sutton. The Partnership is responsible for handling the four boroughs' recycling and rubbish once it's been collected from the kerbside.

As well as managing a number of recycling and composting contracts, the Partnership recently awarded a contract to a company called Viridor to build a state-of-the-art Energy Recovery Facility in Beddington, Sutton, that will turn non-recyclable waste into energy - enough to power 30,000 homes.

More information about where your recycling and rubbish ends up, and what happens to it, is available on the South London Waste Partnership website.
