Christmas and New Year opening hours

Our normal operating hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with the exception of the following:

  • Christmas Eve, closed from 1pm
  • Christmas Day, closed all day
  • Boxing Day, closed all day
  • New Year's Eve, closed from 1pm
  • New Year's Day, closed all day

If you need urgent assistance outside of office hours or on the days we are closed, please see the following:

Adult Social Care

Children's Social care
Call 020 8770 5000 to speak to the duty social worker (this service is provided by Sutton Council) or if you think a child is in immediate danger, please call 999.

Sexual Health Services

Open for emergency contraception:

  • Christmas Day - Ace Pharmacy, 10am to 2pm and Boots Bentalls, 9am to 6pm
  • Boxing Day - Ace Pharmacy, 10am to 2pm
  • New Year's Day - Ace Pharmacy, 10am to 2pm and Boots Bentalls, 9am to 6pm

To report a crime and other concerns
Call 101, the police non-emergency number, to report theft, criminal damage, drug use or dealing in your neighbourhood.
You should always call 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.

Villiers Road Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC)

  • Christmas Eve, 7.30am to 5.30pm (4pm for cars over 1.8 metres high, vans, large vehicles and trailers)
  • Christmas Day, closed
  • Boxing Day, closed
  • New Year's Eve, 7.30am to 5.30pm (4pm for cars over 1.8 metres high, vans, large vehicles and trailers)
  • New Year's Day, closed

For other dates and times visit the HRRC webpage. Please note the last admission to the centre is 15 minutes before closing on all days. If you are visiting in a van or other large vehicle please check the website for access arrangements ahead of your visit.

Waste and recycling collections
Rubbish and recycling collections will change slightly over the festive period. 

There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day. Some collections will be made on Saturdays. Please check our Christmas and New Year collections webpage for more information.

If you have a real tree for Christmas, we'll collect it and compost it. Leave the tree at the front boundary of your property on your black wheelie bin collection day between 7 and 19 January 2019.

  • Sunday 23 December, emergency burial certificates only.
  • Christmas Eve, normal service for registrations, appointments only for marriages and civil partnerships. 
  • Boxing Day,  emergency burial certificates only.
  • Thursday 27 December, walk in service with priority given to death registrations. Appointments only for marriages and civil partnerships. 
  • Friday 28 December, walk in service with priority given to death registrations. Appointments only for marriages and civil partnerships. 
  • Saturday 29 December, emergency burial certificates and birth registrations. Appointments only for marriages and civil partnerships. 
  • Sunday 30 December, emergencyburial certificates only.
  • Monday 31 December, normal service for registrations, appointments only for marriages and civil partnerships. 
  • New Year's Day, emergency burial certificates only.
  • Wednesday 2 January, walk in service with priority given to death registrations. Appointments only for marriages and civil partnerships. 

If for religious reasons a burial must take place within 24 hours after death, heads of faith can contact a registrar on 020 8547 4600, between the hours of 8am and 10am. Please note, this service is not available on Christmas Day

Kingston Bereavement Services
The cemetery is open daily, 9am to 4pm (from 10am on Bank Holidays and weekends). There will be no burials or cremations on the following dates:

  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day
  • New Year's Eve

Things to do over the holidays

Libraries

  • Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day - all libraries closed.
  • Thursday 27 December - reduced opening hours, and all libraries will close at 5pm. 
  • Friday 28 December - normal service
  • Saturday 29 December - normal service
  • Monday 31 December - Kingston, New Malden, Old Malden and Surbiton Library will close at 4pm. Hook and Tolworth Library will be closed.
