Who can join and benefits

Anyone can apply to join our library service and it’s free to join.

We have seven libraries in the borough and a mobile library (Community Library Service) for people who find it hard to visit their library.

If you are a full library member, you can:

  • borrow from a catalogue with more than six million books including fiction, non-fiction, large print and books in other languages
  • place a request if you can’t find the item you are looking for – we can access resources all over the country
  • hire music CDs, music scores, spoken word books, DVDs and language courses
  • book longer sessions at the computer terminals

You can borrow items from any of our branches or libraries in other boroughs we have links with - see Library cards we accept from other boroughs.

All our libraries:

  • are accessible by wheelchair
  • have a separate area for children’s books
  • have computer terminals with internet access
  • have a photocopier and printers
  • have a reference section and a selection of newspapers and magazines

Many of them also offer events, courses, classes, activities for children and reading groups.
