Regular events

We hold some events, like rhymetime and our knitting club, every week. We'd love to see you at any of our regular events:

Events for children and young people

Bookstart Rhyme Time

  • Family sing-along session for babies and toddlers led alternately by library staff and Kingston Music Service
  • Designed to encourage early language development
  • Every Wednesday during term-time at 10.30am
  • £1 per family.
  • Dates for the Spring Term: 
  • 15th Jan, 22nd Jan, 29th Jan, 5th Feb, 12th Feb
  • 26th Feb, 4th Mar, 11th Mar, 18th Mar, 25th Mar, 1st Apr

Events for adults

Stories for grown-ups

  • a new tale every month for grown-ups
  • these are monthly sessions.  Please contact us for details of the next event
  • open to all with those who find reading difficult especially welcome 

Free get back to work sessions

  • every Friday from 10.30am to 12.00 noon
  • help filling in online application forms, looking for jobs online, CVs and basic computer skills

Silver surfers

  • every other Saturday from 10am to 12pm
  • help for beginners to gain more confidence using the computer
  • costs £3

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

  • internationally recognised computer qualification
  • contact the library for further information or to sign up

Hooked on books reading group

  • last Tuesday of every month at 10.30am
  • contact [email protected] to be placed on the waiting list for this group

Card Games at Hook

  • come along for informal card games. Meet people and learn some new card games!
  • group meets fortnightly on a Wednesday 2-3pm 

Scrabble Club

  • informal club for all player levels
  • fortnightly on a Tuesday 2pm

Hook and Chessington Writers

  • monthly writing club for beginner and experienced writers
  • bring along some of your writing to share with others and get some new ideas
  • runs usually the last Wednesday in the month.  Please contact us for further details

Hooked on knitting club

  • every Friday from 10.30am to 12.30pm
  • all levels welcome, bring your own wool and needles 
  • free

Hook crime readers group

  • first Tuesday of every month at 7pm
