How we decide if we can help you
The type of services and support you are offered depends on your needs. We will look at your needs with you and work out the best way to help you. We call this an assessment. You don't have to have one, but if you don't, you might not get the help you need.
You will be fully involved in the assessment. When your assessment has been done we will give you an estimate of how much your Personal Budget will be. A Personal Budget is money we offer so you can choose the type of support you need, who provides it and how.
Who does the assessment?
Assessments (which are confidential) are usually done by a qualified social worker or care coordinator, but they can also be done by healthcare staff like community nurses or occupational therapists.
We will be able to offer you information and advice without an assessment. This will enable you to arrange things for yourself or we can meet with you face-to-face to complete the assessment. Having your support needs assessed by us does not oblige you to use any of our direct services. Instead, you can choose to use a private or voluntary service provider.
If you do decide to ‘do it yourself’ it’s best to at least consider talking to your family and friends to help you decide what kind of care and support is best for you. You can also talk to an independent person or organisation, or to other people in a similar situation to yourself, or a combination of all these, until you feel comfortable with your choice.
