Oakhill Community Heritage Project

Interested in local history?

If you are interested in local history or passionate about heritage, why not volunteer for our community project to share the rich history of Oakhill, Surbiton.

Hillcroft, the women’s educational charity and residential college (with partners) has received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to collect, preserve and share the rich history of Oakhill, Surbiton.

You can help us by volunteering for the project. You will help to:

  • collect oral histories from local residents, past students of Hillcroft and staff and patients of the former hospital
  • scan and archive documents and pictures for uploading to the new Oakhill Heritage web site
  • become Oakhill heritage ambassadors and present the findings through talks and seminars
  • support the archivist who will be leading the project

Volunteers will receive free oral history training from the Oral Histories Society in Surbitons Oakhill history and have the opportunity to work with an internationally renowned artist.

To get involved go to the Oakhill project website for more information.
