Today, the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is a popular shopping and entertainment destination. The area is a colourful mix of themed markets, street activities and varied retail outlets. It also boasts a colourful cafe culture, thriving arts scene, a well respected university and great nightlife.  


Kingston town centre is a mecca for shoppers with over 500 stores including John Lewis and Bentalls department store. The large retail areas are Eden Walk Shopping Centre, Clarence Street and The Bentall Centre. You can also find small niche retailers and market stalls in the famous Market Place. If it’s food you’re after then Kingston’s Ancient Market is renowned for its fruit, vegetables and meat products.


If you’re a keen sports player or you enjoy a good sporting spectacle, there are plenty of events in the borough to get your heart pumping. Kingston is in a prime position for sport lovers. As well as a 100 year old golf course, Kingston is also home to AFC Wimbledon based in the Kingsmeadow Stadium. Other sports grounds near to the area include Wimbledon and RFU Twickenham.


If shopping’s not for you, Kingston still has a lot to offer. There are two local theatres, the Rose Theatre and the Arthur Cotterell Theatre. Kingston also boasts a buzzing arts scene with many galleries and museums. Other highlights include a 14-screen cinema, comedy shows and a range of bars, pubs and clubs all set in a stunning riverside location.

Food and Drink

Kingston has many restaurants and cafes offering food from around the world to suit every taste and budget. Castle Street offers plenty of snack options whereas the Rotunda has a range of restaurants offering many mouth watering cuisines. Charter Quay offers al fresco dining in the piazza or along the river.
