Kingston Ancient Market Place

Funding the project

Supported by Mayor of London

The enhancement of the Ancient Market is supported by the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund which is helping to bring vibrancy and economic growth to high street places across London. A total of just over £2 million from the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund will be invested in key projects within Kingston town centre.

We are also investing our own capital resources in the Ancient Market project, with a total investment of just under £3 million planned for 2013/14.

The Mayor’s investment is intended to create an integrated approach to boosting Kingston town centre and will support the following projects:

  • Kingston Ancient Market – enhancements to create an inclusive public space with character and drama, providing a much better working environment for the market traders and opening up views of the Market House building
  • All Saints Church – creating a heritage project that tells the Saxon and local history of Kingston
  • Kingston tourism development – working with Kingstonfirst to promote Kingston as a major tourist attraction
  • Creative Youth – converting the Bishop’s Palace car park and loading bay into a flexible outdoor performance space.
