South London Waste Plan
In 2012, the Royal Borough of Kingston, along with the three London boroughs of Croydon, Merton and Sutton adopted the South London Waste Plan (Development Plan Document) 2011-2021 which allocated sites, created planning policies and designated areas for waste management development. The plan also safeguarded existing waste sites and identified areas which may be suitable for waste use. The plan period is coming to an end and so it is necessary to prepare a new one.
The four south London Councils of Croydon, Merton, Kingston and Sutton have again agreed to prepare the South London Waste Plan. The new waste plan will cover the period 2021 to 2036 plan period.
No new waste sites are being proposed in this new Plan. The existing waste sites are being safeguarded and intensified where appropriate.
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires local planning authorities to engage and involve the local community and other interested parties in the area in the production of development plan documents, including Waste Plans.
Once approved and placed on public consultation, members of the public will be able to view and understand how waste will be managed in the borough during the plan period 2021 to 2036 and be able to make their views known to the council.
The consultation will take place between October and December 2019.
The plan can be found on our website.
