Personal licence

Once your licence is granted

Once granted your licence will take effect immediately.

Your personal licence will take the form of two separate parts:

  • Part 1: a credit card size document containing your name and address, our name (as the issuing authority), your photograph, your unique licence number and the date of expiry.
  • Part 2: a certificate, containing a record of any relevant or foreign offences you have been convicted of, the date of each conviction and the sentence received. This part also contains all the details contained in Part 1, except the photograph.

You have an obligation as a personal licence holder to tell us if you are convicted of any relevant offence during the term of your licence. You must do this in wriiting by sending Part 2 of your licence documents to us. We will update the document and return it to you.

If you are being prosecuted for a relevant offence, you have an obligation to tell the court that you are a personal licence holder.
