Mayor of London and London Assembly elections 2024

The Mayor of London and London Assembly elections will take place on 2 May 2024. Voters will choose who they want to represent them as: 

  • Mayor of London 
  • The South West Constituency* Assembly Member on the London Assembly, and  
  • London-wide Assembly Members 

*The South West Constituency covers the area of London Borough of Hounslow, Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Who can vote?

To vote in these elections you must: 

  • Be registered to vote 
  • Live in London 
  • Be at least 18 years old on the day of the elections 
  • Be a British citizen, a European Union citizen or a Commonwealth citizen who has or does not require leave to remain in the UK 

If you aren't registered yet, you can apply to register to vote online. It takes less than five minutes.

You must register by midnight on Tuesday 16 April 2024 to vote in these elections.

Ways to vote 

In person 

To vote in person, you will need to attend your polling station between the hours of 7am and 10pm on polling day, 2 May 2024. You will be required to present an accepted form of photo ID in order to be issued with a ballot paper. Read more about the requirement to bring photo ID

If you do not have an accepted form of photo ID you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate until 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

By post 

If you are unable to vote in person, you can register for a postal vote The deadline to receive new postal vote applications is 5pm, Wednesday 17 April 2024. 

You can apply for a postal vote here on the government website.

We must receive your completed postal vote pack by 10pm on polling day. Please ensure you post your postal vote in sufficient time to be delivered by Royal Mail.  

By proxy 

You can register for somebody to vote for you as a proxy.

The deadline to receive new proxy vote applications is 5pm, Wednesday 24 April 2024.
