Report a change of address

Tell us if you’re moving in or out of a home in the borough

Please be aware, we are unable to produce a Council Tax bill until your moving date is less than three weeks away. If you tell us you are moving, in or out of the borough, more than 21 days in advance we will not be able to produce an updated Council Tax bill until closer to your moving date.

Tell us if you’re moving in

If you’re new to Kingston or moving to another property within the borough, let us know so we can set up a new account or change your existing one. 

Renting

If you’re renting a new home, you’ll need to give us: 

  • the tenancy start date
  • your moving in date
  • if the property is furnished or unfurnished
  • number of people living with you
  • names of the people living with you

Buying

If you’re buying a new home, you’ll need to give us: 

  • your completion date on the purchase of the property
  • the date you’re moving furniture in 
  • the number of adults over the age of 18 years living in the property
  • the full names of the adults living in the property

Council Tax reduction 

If you are moving within the borough and are currently receive a Council Tax reduction, you will need to complete a change in Council Tax reduction form as well as the Moving in form as it could affect your entitlement.

What happens next

We will send you your Council Tax bill  Once you have a council tax account number, you can start paying your Council Tax.

We will also provide you with an online key to access your account online, where you can download a copy of your latest bill, view your payment history and find a breakdown of payments and charges.

Tell us you're moving out  

If you live in the borough and are moving out of your home, you’ll need to complete our online form. You will need to give the following information so we can close your account. 

Renting

If you’re renting your home, you’ll need to give us: 

  • the tenancy end date
  • your moving out date
  • the name and address of the landlord or letting agent
  • a forwarding address for the final bill and to close your account

Selling

If you’re selling your home, you’ll need to give us: 

  • the completion date on the sale of your property
  • your moving-out date 
  • the names of the new owner or owners, if you have them
  • a forwarding address for the final bill and to close your account
