Five things to do to get ready for welcoming Ukrainian refugee pupils

We are expecting more Ukrainian pupils to arrive in schools soon. Here are five things you can do to help get ready:

  1. Focus with your pupils on your school’s ethos of valuing everyone and respecting differences.

  2. Consult parents who are already settled from Ukraine and Russia on your plans.

  3. Train pupils and parents to be buddies.

  4. Have welcome packs and visuals ready around the school.

  5. Download leaflets for Ukrainian parents on the school system and dealing with trauma.

See our padlet for these and more resources to help you prepare. Our comprehensive guide for welcoming new arrivals, also with lots of links to resources and advice is here.

The DEA network on Wednesday 4 May will include a focus on this too - make sure you sign up. A rerun of our Welcoming New Arrivals course will be advertised soon.
