Recycling and rubbish collections guide

Small electricals and batteries

The small electrical items and batteries recycling service is only available if you live in a house or a house converted into flats. If you live in purpose built flats, please take these items to nearby charity shops if they are still operational, or you can dispose of them at the household reuse and recycling centre.

Small electrical appliances, whether working or broken, can be collected from your home fortnightly. Put one small tied plastic bag of items on top of your black wheelie bin on your fortnightly rubbish collection day.

The compartment on the collection vehicles is small, so we can only collect small items (less than 35x40cm), for example:

  • Phones and Chargers
  • Irons toasters and Kettles
  • Hairdryer, Hair straighteners, Hair clippers
  • Clocks and watches
  • Radios, Mini hi-fi and speakers
  • Remote controls, wifi routers, cameras
  • Small electronic toys
  • Small power tools
  • Laptops, tablets electronic photo frames
  • Keyboards Mice and Microphones

If you are recycling both electricals and textiles on the same collection week, please place them in separate plastic bags.If you have a lot of small electricals, or if you have larger electrical items, please take these to the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre.

You can recycle household batteries in the same way as small electrical items. Put them in a tied carrier bag on the top of your rubbish bin on your black rubbish bin collection day. If you have batteries and electricals to recycle in the same week, please place them in separate carrier bags.
