Many thanks to everyone who submitted their views during the Spring and Autumn 2009 consultations. These have been taken into account as part of the draft Surbiton Town Centre Improvement Strategy.
The draft Improvement Strategy for Surbiton Town Centre was approved by the Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee on 9th December 2009.
The short term improvements are now almost completed as follows:
•St. Mary’s Road – see below*
•Adelaide Road/St. Mark’s Hill entry treatment
•Cottage Grove/Brighton Road entry treatment
•Clock Tower corner/Car park entrance; and
•Victoria Road Bus stops
Improvements to St. Mary’s Road have been funded from the Section 106 Planning Agreement for the Surbiton Plaza development and were drawn up following discussions with local residents in the context of the wider Surbiton Town Centre project and public consultation was carried out. The Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee approved the implementation of the scheme in early 2010 at its meeting on 4th November 2009.
The medium term improvements focus on Victoria Road and Brighton Road and will require detail design, consultation with landowners and other key stakeholders including residents, businesses and visitors to Surbiton Town Centre.
This work will continue and further reports will be submitted to the Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee as appropriate.
The programme for the Improvement Strategy takes into account the need for essential reconstruction works in Victoria Road which presented an opportunity to consider other improvements to Surbiton Town Centre. It will bring together existing projects and strategies into one cohesive strategy covering the project area, such as any planning proposals for the Town Centre, including any transport improvement proposals already considered by the Committee.
