Paint the Town Green - Kingston 2008

15 May - 5 June 2008

Think Green, Live Green, Be Green!

What is Paint the Town Green?

Fabulous, fun and family friendly activities running from Thursday 15 May to Thursday 5 June will help to ensure that Kingston will once again be at the cutting edge of environmental awareness and problem-solving whilst London as a whole gears up for Love London, the capital’s sustainability festival. From human rights to penguin rights, there are activities to inspire, educate and intrigue. So help us to Paint the Town Green – it’s good for you and the planet!

What's on?

With events as varied as Wine Tasting through to Real Nappy Starter Classes, there’s sure to be something to interest everyone.

The headline event of the festival will be the Kingston Green Fair, which takes place on 26 May 2008  and will be celebrating its 21st year.

For the first time Kingston will host a solar-powered three week radio festival in which the whole community are invited to help create a moving living musical fun way to get the green message across.

What can I do?

Schools and businesses are asked to take part more actively in this year’s festival events which are the first events for the Love London 2008 London  Sustainability Weeks programme.   If you would like to talk to someone about holding an event then please contact the Customer Care Team and mention Paint The Town Green, they'll be able to help you or direct you to someone that can.

Councillor Liz Green, Executive Member for Sustainability and Biodiversity at Kingston Council, said:

"There are now lots of organisations in the borough that are working to protect our environment. The Paint the Town Green festival will give these groups an opportunity to promote their work on a larger scale than normal.

Environmental issues are now, more than ever, at the forefront of people’s minds. Kingston Council wants to lead the way in helping residents make an informed choice about how to protect the local and global environment. Events like Paint the Town Green will help them to do just that.”
