Neighbourhood committee fund leads to new walking guide
A new walking guide produced with the help of community grant funding from Kingston Council is now available for residents to pick up.
The guide, which covers a three mile walk between the train stations at Tolworth, Malden Manor and Berrylands, highlights wildlife and history along the route.
Himali Patil from The Community Brain - the organisation which has produced the guide - updated councillors at a meeting of the Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee.
Ms Patil said the route included Six Acre Meadow, the Hogsmill Riverside Open Space and Elmbridge Meadow.
The guide is available online from The Community Brain website and can be found on the Go Jauntly app. It can also be picked up in Kingston, Surbiton, Tolworth and Hook libraries and in local cafes featured on the map.
Councillor Alison Holt, who was re-elected as chair of the neighbourhood committee, said:
“This is a fabulous document and I’m really pleased councillors agreed to fund it. Not only does it highlight the biodiversity in the area, which the council is working hard to support, but walks such as this are so important for physical and mental wellbeing as we continue to recover from the pandemic.
“There are a number of pots of council funding available to support worthwhile community projects and this walking guide is a perfect example. I’d encourage any local residents or organisations to contact their councillor or apply via the council’s website if they have an initiative that fits the bill."
