Mayor opens new community cafe in Latchmere Recreation Ground

Mayor opening Latchmere Rec cafe

The Mayor of Kingston formally opened a new community cafe in Latchmere Recreation Ground on Thursday 11 November.

The cafe, called The Latch, is the result of a collaboration between the council and the Friends of Latchmere Rec (FoLAR) to bring a vacant park building back into use for the community.

As part of the lease, the public toilets will remain open and regularly serviced and maintained by the cafe operator.

At the event, the Mayor also planted a tree with the 1902 spade, a donation from 7-times Mayor 'Finny' to celebrate the coronation of King Edward 7th and Queen Alexandra.

On opening the cafe, Cllr Sushila Abraham, Mayor of Kingston, said:

“It was a privilege to be invited and handed the keys to open the Latch Cafe. Friends of Latchmere Recreation worked incredibly hard to open a cafe on the grounds and that hard work really shows. The food is fantastic and I recommend residents support such a good cafe. Thank you to Filippo Selini for taking up the challenge to run the cafe.

“It was also a great pleasure to be invited to plant a tree at Latchmere Rec and be able to use the 1902 spade.”

The Latch is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm, 7 days a week.
