First ever collaborative Jobs and Training Fair brings employers and jobseekers together in Kingston

Kingston Council and South Thames Colleges Group are working with several partners to organise a first-of-its-kind job fair to help local people into employment and boost the economy hit by the impacts of COVID-19.

On 23 June, job seekers can watch virtual sessions delivered by industry experts, on a variety of subjects, including creating CVs and job searching, digital and creative industries, starting your own business, health and wellbeing and much more. Each session will provide potential employees with a list of current job vacancies in the sector, advice from employers who are looking to recruit and training options available in the sector.

Councillor John Sweeney, Portfolio Holder Business and Leisure said: “ The pandemic has had a significant impact on employment rates across the borough and the rest of the country, with residents reporting the need for clear information about employment and training opportunities. Currently unemployed job seekers are continuing to apply for jobs within the same sector, rather than looking at other options like exploring different sectors, reskilling or retraining.

“With that in mind partners across the borough have come together to host a free virtual one day event, which provides residents with information and advice on securing new employment, re-training or re-skilling or considering a career change.”

Peter Mayhew-Smith, Group Principal and CEO of South Thames Colleges Group, said: “We’re delighted to be part of the team running Kingston’s very special jobs and careers fair. There are now so many opportunities to find work, build a career or take up training and Kingston is putting itself at the heart of the recovery by bringing it all together in one place.

“This is a terrific chance to learn about a whole range of jobs vital to our part of London, meet major employers and check out the jobs available right now as well as find out about the skills and knowledge you can learn along the way. We’d urge everyone thinking about their next steps to come and be part of this day, there’s so much to be positive about right now and we’re going to be there to make that a reality on 23 June.”

If you are unable to access the event from home or find you would benefit from watching it away from your home, the event will be at several broadcasting centres around the borough. Simply visit the centre on the day and you will have access to IT services in order to take part in the event.
