The Mayor has chosen to support two charities during his term of office.
Any money raised during his 12 months in office will be split between these two charities.
A message from the Mayor, Councillor David Berry

Forces Children’s Trust is a charity devoted to helping children in need whose father or mother has died, or been seriously injured, whilst serving as a member of the British Armed Forces. The charity was founded in 2004, following the many heart-breaking stories that emerged from the losses in Afghanistan and Iraq, in an effort to fill a gap in the charitable field of family care. Over the years, the charity has grown considerably in size, allowing it to improve the lives of many children.
The Forces Children’s Trust works in partnership with families, Charity and Services Associations and provides help and support to the children and their families.
Amongst the many areas of assistance, we organise regular educational and social events where children can meet and interact with others who have experienced similar heartache. The children benefit hugely from these trips as they realise that they are not alone in their grief. We also recognise that each child is special and unique, and should an individual require help not provided directly by the Trust, such as professional psychological help, then we can assist financially where appropriate.

Combat Stress is the only registered charity providing specialist psychological support and treatment to Veterans of wars, peacekeeping missions and emergency relief operations. We support those ex-Service men and women who have been profoundly traumatised by the harrowing events they have been through during their Service and who have consequently suffered psychological injuries including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The majority of the Veterans we see have become socially isolated, with failed family relationships and unable to hold down jobs. Many will have turned to alcohol and other substances as a means of escape. We teach them how to cope with the devastating effects of their illness and how to reduce the symptoms they experience. We give our Veterans the skills and confidence to rebuild their lives.
Combat Stress, established in 1919, has a successful track record of providing vital support and care through two principal activities: a national network of welfare officers and specialist treatment at our three short-stay centres, one of which is in Surrey.
