Dragon Boat Challenge 2010

On Sunday, 18 July 2010 hundreds of competitors took to the river Thames in Dragon Boats to take part in the Annual Dragon Boat Challenge.

The Mayor's boat came 27 out of 45 competitors braving the waters on a beautiful Summer's afternoon at Canbury Gardens.

The Mayor's boat was taking part in the race to raise funds for "The Mayor's Charity" and was sponsored by Zoo Communications a local company based on London Road in Kingston.

The Mayor would like to thank Mr Lars Clausen at Zoo Communications for his kind support of this event and for sponsoring the Mayor's Boat entry and the team's t-shirts.

The Mayor's Charity this year is raising funds for Cairn House Hostel, which is part of the Kaleidoscope Project, and the Fircroft Trust.  Some of the money raised will also go towards funding an outing, or other appropriate activity, for residents at the Alfriston Centre.

We are delighted to announce that due to the kind support of Zoo Communications and various other people that collected personal sponsorship for rowing in the Dragon Boat Race on our behalf, the Mayor's Charity is due to raise close to £1,000 from our 1st fundraising event of the year.

The day was a tremendous success and enjoyed by all those attending the event.  The Mayor was also an active participant in the day's proceedings by beating the drum and setting the rhythm for her team to row.  The races were keenly fought with The Canbury Arms Boys the overall winners.
