The Mayor, Councillor Chrissie Hitchcock, made the following announcement at Annual Council on Wednesday 19 May 2010.
"My overall theme for the year will be raising awareness about mental health issues. My Charities for the year will be Cairn House Hostel, which is part of the Kaleidoscope Project, and The Fircroft Trust. Some of the money raised will go towards funding an outing, or other appropriate activity, for the residents at Alfriston Day Centre. During the course of the year I will also be supporting All Saints Church and their current fundraising appeal and KREC."

Cairn House Hostel is a 24 hour supported accommodation project which aims to provide a safe environment for adults to enable them to move towards independence. This service provides a supportive environment for men and women with mental health problems who have medium to high support needs. The project also provides accommodation to men and women with multiple/complex support needs such as those with a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance use issues.
Kaleidoscope’s mission is to provide life enhancing services to people on the margins of society. In particular we provide support to people with drug and alcohol problems, enabling them to make positive changes in their lives. At the heart of all our work is respect for our service users. Kaleidoscope was formed in 1968 at the John Bunyan Baptist Church.

The Fircroft Trust is a local charity working in Kingston upon Thames with adults living in the community with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities. Over the years we have developed our work and now provide:-
