I have just found out (March 10th) that the payment counter in the Guildhall is going to be closed on May 2nd, apparently to save money. This counter service is essential to all residents and should not be discarded so readily. I am asking the council to reconsider this plan and find in favour of keeping the service available. Especially in view of the fact that 6 of the post offices in the borough that are listed as alternative locations for making payments are due to close in June.

I know that the council have to reduce or remove some services in order to keep increases in council tax down, but this counter service is needed by everyone in the borough. And if the council is keen to save money, why are they planning on spending nearly £250,000 on the children's play area in Green Lane Recreation?
The decision to close the Cash Office was part of the process for setting the 08-09 budget. Alternative facilities for payments such as rent and Council Tax are available at a wide range of local shops through the Paypoint system as well as at Post Offices.
