The River feels that Kingston University students and staff are risking their lives every day crossing Penrhyn Road in heavy traffic. Because the bus stop is directly opposite the main entrance to the Penrhyn Road campus and using the pelican crossing means adding two minutes and an indirect route to their journey most people choose to cross the road. The council needs to listen to our concerns before someone is seriously hurt or even killed. By changing the position of the bus stop or safe crossing point a tragedy can be prevented.

Petition title: Save our students from the Penrhyn Road deathtrap

Every day students and staff have to cross Penrhyn Road causing cars to brake suddenly to avoid them. This is obviously dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers.
This petition was considered by the Kingston Town Neighbourhood Committee on 19 March. Taking account of the views of all users of the bus stop by the Church - many of whom had previously petitioned against its removal - and the short distance between the University entrance and a pelican crossing it was decided to take no action. The report to the meeting and the minutes can be seen at www.kingston.gov.uk/CommitteeMinutes.
