Elections take place on Thursday 1 May 2008 to elect the Mayor of London and members of the London Assembly.
It is no longer possible to register to vote for the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections - the deadline was Wednesday 16 April 2008. If you are unsure whether you are registered to vote you should contact Electoral Services immediately.
Poll cards to all electors on the register for 10 March were issued on 18 March 2008. If you apply to go on the register after 10 March 2008 then your poll card will be sent at a later date. You do not need your poll card to be able to vote. If you lose your poll card you can still vote - simply tell the poll clerk at your polling station your name and address and you will be allocated your ballot papers in the usual manner.
It is no longer possible to apply for a postal vote - the deadline was 5pm on Wednesday 16 April 2008. If you are unable to vote in person at your polling station then you could apply for a proxy vote (where you appoint someone else to vote on your behalf). The deadline for applying for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April - see below for details.
Postal voting ballot papers will be sent out on three dates, depending on the date of the initial application and the date of any alteration to an existing application:
| Date of Application/Alteration to Existing Application | Date issued to Royal Mail |
|---|---|
| Before 31 March 2008 | Thursday 17 April 2008 |
| Between 1 April and 11 April 2008 | Friday 18 April 2008 |
| Between 12 April and 5pm 16 April 2008 | Thursday 24 April 2008 |
If you wish to vote by proxy (appointing someone else to vote on your behalf) then the deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April (however if your proxy wishes to vote by post then the deadline for both your application and your proxy's postal vote application is 5pm on Wednesday 16 April). Further details on proxy voting, including a downloadable application form can be found on our Proxy Voting pages
Each elector is allocated a polling station. You can only vote at your allocated polling station. Poll Cards will be delivered to all electors on or around 18 March. Your poll card will give details of your polling station. However, if you are unsure of your polling station, visit our Local Information Search page for details and a map of your polling station.
