Elections and Voting

Electoral Services

Electoral Services ensure that all eligible residents within the Royal Borough are given the opportunity to vote in any elections: local, parliamentary, GLA, European or referenda.  We do this by compiling a Register of Electors.  There is an annual canvass to update the Register each autumn which is published in full on 1 December each year.  The process of "rolling registration" takes place between December and September.  This allows people to register to vote throughout the year.  If you have moved within the Borough or are new to the Borough you will need register to vote at your new address.

Electoral Services also organise and administer all elections that take place within the borough as well as assisting with any local or parliamentary boundary changes.  The next planned election is the European Parliamentary Election in June 2009, however there could be a parliamentary or local by-election at anytime.

Registering to Vote

We are now undertaking the annual canvass of all properties within the Borough.  Every household has been sent a Register of Electors 2009 form.  If there are no changes to the details printed on this form then you must confirm the details we hold are still correct.  You can do this by the internet, freephone or SMS (text message).  Full details are printed on your registration form and enclosed leaflet.  If you need to make alterations to the details we hold then you will need to do this on your registration form and return it to us in the pre-paid envelope we provide you.
