The behaviour of all Councillors, as well as the co-opted and independent members appointed to the Council's committees, is covered by a Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, together with other locally adopted protocols for behaviour on matters such as planning applications, can be viewed via the link at the bottom of the page.
As part of the Code of Conduct all Councillors are required to make public certain information about their financial and other interests. This information is published as a Register of Interests and is available to view online in this section. Councillors must declare these and other relevant interests at any meeting where they would be affected and, in certain circumstances, may be required to leave the room and take no part in the decision.
The ethical framework for public authorities such as Kingston Council was established in the Local Government Act 2000 and is overseen nationally by the Standard Board for England. Locally, Kingston’s Standards Committee aims to promote high standards of ethical conduct and probity among elected councillors and the independent and co-opted members appointed to committees.
If you feel that there may have been a breach of the Code of Conduct, please see the guidance set out in Making a Complaint.
