Local Area Agreement

In June 2005, the Government announced a second phase of Local Area Agreement (LAA) areas – 66 nationally, including 15 London boroughs.

The main aims of Local Area Agreements are:

  • Improve central/local arrangements
  • Improve service delivery
  • Improve efficiency
  • Improve partnership working
  • Enable local authorities to provide better leadership

Our LAA sets out our local priorities as represented by the local authority in partnership with its Local Strategic Partnership (the Community Leadership Forum) and other key partners. We intend that the LAA will enable us with our partners to deliver outcomes in a way that not only reflects local priorities but also encourages flexibility and fresh thinking to find local solutions to local problems and then to prioritise spending to achieve these outcomes. Our LAA therefore not only reflects our local Community Plan but extends and focuses its ambitions; in effect, the LAA is the practical expression of the Community Plan and so is core to the work of our LSP.
