This Neighbourhood is made up of the old Maldens and Coombe Borough Council border and constitutes about a third of the London Royal borough of Kingston upon Thames (the oldest Royal Borough in England and Wales). St John the Baptist Church in Old Malden dates back to Norman times, and Merton College was founded at Malden before being transferred to Oxford.
The Duke of Cambridge also owned a lot of land in the area - which is why there is an historical association with Cambridge on road and pub names. New Malden and Coombe developed at the time of the railway coming to the area during the Victorian period.
New Malden has a pleasant village atmosphere offering friendly local shops. There is a wealth of active community groups, and the largest Korean population outside of Korea.
Kingston Hospital is located within the Neighbourhood, and Kingston University has extensive facilities at it's Kingston Hill site.
Railway stations at New Malden, Malden Manor, Norbiton and Worcester Park serve the Neighbourhood.
