Kingston town centre will be switching on to Christmas on Thursday 16 November.
Free festive, family activities will be taking place in the town centre from 2 - 7pm with Father Christmas switching on the Christmas lights at 6pm.
In the lead up to the switch on, the War Memorial Gardens will be transformed into Kingston Christmas Kingdom, complete with a live nativity farm – including donkey, cow, sheep and manger.
Children can enjoy the tinsel and sparkle workshops and hear Christmas tales from the story tellers from Kingston Council’s Children’s Library Service.
Along with the traditional ambience of the German Market, The Ancient Market Place is set to come alive with a musical collaboration from schools throughout the borough. Pupils from St John's, Bedelsford, St Andrew's, St Mark's, Maple Infants, St Joseph's, King Athelstan and Tiffin schools will perform carols in front of the Christmas tree.
Seasonal tunes will also fill the town centre with music from Borough Brass and the Roehampton Steel Band, which will bring a Caribbean Christmas twist to Clarence Street. The Tiffin School Swing Band and Kingston Youth Big Band will entertain shoppers at Eden Walk.
Radio Jackie will entertain shoppers in The Bentall Centre and Clarence Street. Eden Walk shopping centre will provide magic entertainment and children’s craft workshops. In the Bentall Centre, the Bear Family will entertain before Father Christmas takes up residence in his grotto.
The Rotunda is a new addition to this year’s switch on programme offering a Christmas decorations workshop. The festivities will continue in the Parish Church Gardens with the Eden Craft Christmas Craft Fair and children’s activities adjacent to John Lewis.
