Kingston Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Advanced Tree Services (ATS) as its preferred partner to provide tree and arboricultural services in the Royal Borough from 1 February 2006.
The new partnership arrangement with ATS will initially cover a period of five years although the Council has an option to extend this for two further periods of five years at its discretion.
On behalf of the Council, ATS will be responsible for work to all trees on the borough’s streets, housing estates, cemeteries and other ‘green spaces’. ATS will also maintain trees in the borough’s parks, managed by the Council’s new parks management partner, Quadron Services Limited.
Advanced Tree Services was selected by the Council following a detailed procurement exercise, undertaken as part of the authority’s recent review of parks management and grounds maintenance contracts in the Royal Borough. The company was chosen over a number of other contractors on the basis of its specialist skills and proven experience in providing tree and arboricultural services both to Kingston Council (since 1998) and a number of other local authorities.
ATS also demonstrated to the Council’s all-party selection panel that they had the necessary vision and innovative approach to further develop and improve the borough’s tree and arboricultural service over the coming years. Under the new arrangements, ATS will provide a number of dedicated ‘tree-teams’ working solely in Kingston upon Thames to provide a more responsive service to the local community.
Commenting on the new partnership agreement, Councillor Dennis Doe, member of the all-party selection panel, said: “One of the beauties of the Royal Borough is its abundance of trees. In more recent years we have seen them looking better in health, shape and variety. Much has been down to ATS since their initial appointment. They were just one of a list of firms tendering for the new contract, a contract made attractive not least because our tree stock was in such good condition. ATS were again the best firm in the face of fierce competition.”
Daron Mitchell of Advanced Tree Services comments: “We are very much looking forward to continuing the partnership we currently have with Kingston Council, and relish the opportunity to be able to further improve the tree stocks within the Royal Borough.”
