Families will be celebrating May Day in Kingston with a May Merrie event jam-packed with fun and entertainment.
Children's activities, street entertainment, a diverse menu of music and dance, plus the Kingston Fayre on the Fairfield, will all add up to a great day out in Kingston for the whole in family.
In the town centre, War Memorial Gardens will be transformed into Kingston First Kids Kingdom. Free activities include a children’s farm, bouncy castle, face painting, craft workshops, garden games and balloon modelling.
Music to suit all tastes will resound through the town centre. The Ancient Market Place will host music and dance performances by local community groups and professional artists. Stage Coach New Malden will perform songs from the shows, followed by Boheme, a powerful popular classical music group. Suave Salsa will add a Latin flavour to the event whilst Ereybo Arts will showcase ODEHEI - African drum and dance. A fantastic jumpin’ jivin’ jitterbug' display from the ever popular GI Jitterbugs and sounds of the Caribbean from the Roehampton Steel Band will light up Clarence Street. Jazz will resound around the Parish Church, with Manor Six Jazz and Brian White's Jazz Band.
There will be popular Big Band music from Kingston’s Youth Big Band and Concert Band at Eden Walk shopping centre, along with the Surbiton Royal British Legion Youth Marching Band.
A mix of zany street entertainers including wacky walkabouts and crazy stilt walkers will be out and about in the town centre, accompanied by the fun and games of comedy street shows, plus Punch & Judy and Piggery Jokery – a whimsical puppet show.
Kingston Parish Church will host a Craft & Gift Fair and Kingston Museum will host a variety of free family fun including World War 1 re-enactors and Rupert Bear themed activities to complement their Alfred Bestall exhibition.
The May Fayre on the Fairfield will be packed with entertainment with arena displays including amazing Medieval Jousting performed by the Devil’s Horseman. There is something for everyone including family fairground rides, children’s shows, bouncy castle and stalls and the Radio Jackie Road show.
