Benefits - Applicable Amounts

This is a weekly figure, usually set annually, by the Government and represents the basic living needs of the customer and family.

An applicable amount is made up of:

  • A customer's personal allowance.
  • Personal allowances for a partner and/or dependent children.
  • Premiums - for example, if you have children or you are disabled.

The total of these allowances make up a customer’s weekly applicable amount.  This amount is deducted from the customer’s total weekly income, and their Housing and Council Tax benefit is based on the difference.

The table below shows the amounts from 1 April 2008. This is not a full list.

To find out if you may be entitled to any Housing or Council Tax Benefit please use our benefits calculator or for a full list of applicable amounts visit the website of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
