The Kingston Community Plan consultation – closing date 15 July 2008

The priorities for those of us responsible for delivering public services in Kingston are set out in the Kingston Community Plan.  This was last produced in 2004 and is now in need of updating.  Formally to be known as the ‘Sustainable Community Strategy’ we are consulting on the priorities for our new Community Plan now.  This will cover the period to 2020 and set out our vision and priorities for the future of the borough.

We would like your opinions on our initial thoughts and for you to tell us what your priorities are.

The draft Community Plan sets out three cross cutting themes and nine key objectives covering priorities including:

  • The economy;
  • Employment;
  • Education and training;
  • Housing;
  • Community safety;
  • Health;
  • Volunteering;
  • Independent living for vulnerable people;
  • Transport;
  • The environment;
  • Waste and recycling.

To view a summary leaflet on the Community Plan please see below:

If you would like hard copies of either the draft Community Plan or summary leaflet then please contact us (details below) and we will be pleased to send these to you.

Please let us have any comments by the close of the consultation period on Tuesday 15 July 2008.  We will then look at everything people have told us and produce a final draft Community Plan for our partners to approve in September.

Measuring progress

Kingston along with all local authorities reports to central Government against delivery of a series of key targets relating to public services.  These are agreed with partners and set out in a ‘Local Area Agreement’ covering the three financial years 2008/09 to 2010/11.  Our final draft Local Area Agreement was submitted to Government on 30 May for formal sign off in June.

There are 33 specific targets in the Local Area Agreement covering many of the areas which are explored in more detail in the draft Community Plan.  In addition there are a number of statutory education and early year’s targets plus two local targets that we are working on as a Partnership.  These are ‘Reducing our Ecological Footprint’ and ‘Workplace Travel Planning’.  For more information on any aspect of the Local Area Agreement please contact us – see details below.

To access this and see details of the targets that have been agreed with Government please see below:
