The Information and Advice Project is made up of a number of community organisations who are working together to make sure that local people are able to find useful information and advice quickly and easily to help them stay independent, safe and well. To make sure this happens, the Project Group is working to develop an Information and Advice Service. As well as supporting local people, the service will also offer a resource to providers of information and advice so that they are better equipped to support people to help themselves.
The directory includes local statutory and voluntary organisations which support disabled and older people by providing information, advice (tailoring information to a client's particular situation) and/or advocacy (representing a client). Many of these organisations also provide other services, such as helping clients to complete forms or apply for benefits, or by running social activities.
Some of the organisations listed seek to help people with specific types of impairment (such as mental health difficulties) or particular conditions (such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's Disease). Others help a wider cross-section of disabled or older people, regardless of impairment.
Stay Independent Factsheets are short factsheets on key issues, such as accessible transport, the blue badge scheme, finding an accessible home etc.
The Health and Social Care pages of the website give a huge amount of information about a wide range of issues. See especially:
