Overseas Electors

If you are a British citizen living outside the United Kingdom for longer than six months of the year you may be able to register as an overseas elector.  This will enable you to vote at parliamentary and European parliamentary elections in the UK.

To register as an overseas elector you must be a British citizen and meet one of two sets of conditions:

either

  • your name was previously on the electoral register for an address in the UK
  • there are no more than 15 years between the qualification date of that register and the date on your application to register as an overseas elector.

or

  • you have reached the age of 18 whilst living abroad
  • you were too young to be on an electoral register before you left the UK
  • a parent or guardian was on that electoral register for the address at which you were living on that date

If you feel that you meet one of the two sets of above criteria please contact Electoral Services who will send you an application form to register as an overseas elector.  Note that the form must be completed whilst you are living abroad and that you will need your application supported by a British passport holder who is not a relative and also not resident in the UK.

To apply as an overseas elector please contact Electoral Services:
