
Each year, we update our Winter Maintenance Plan to take into account changes that are needed to ensure the winter service operates in an efficient way.

The Council receives regular weather reports and hazard updates from the Met Office, which are used to determine which travel routes are gritted/salted. Only the main routes in the borough are gritted automatically, but responsive treating can be requested by contacting Environmental Services (please see our contact details below).

When it snows street cleaners will remove snow from footpaths. Also, there are several salt/grit bins in the borough, which contain salt for residents to use to clear the pavement outside their property.

The DfT has provided a Self help guidance note with advice on clearing snow and ice. This guide is designed to help you to act in a neighbourly way by safely clearing snow and ice from pavements and public spaces.
