The Free Access for National Sports People (FANS) Scheme provides sportspeople of a national level with FREE access to gyms in Kingston. FANS aims to assist elite athletes to achieve their full potential by reducing the financial burden of training costs. Members are invited from any sporting discipline recognised by Sport England.
The FANS scheme was launched on Wednesday 10 October 2007 by James Witt, British & International Karate Champion 2005 & Jonathan Smith, 100m & 200m Wheelchair Racer. The athletes were put through their paces at the university's Sports Laboratories by sports physiologist Dr Ross Sherman, Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology & Lead Consultant in Human Performance Laboratory. Kingston University's Sports Science Department have extensive facilities and expertise in providing cutting edge sports science support to top athletes from a range of sports.
