About the Specialist Team

The Specialist Team is here to help anyone whose eyesight becomes a cause for concern, whether they are registered with the council as visually impaired or not.

We keep registers of hearing and visually impaired people who live in the Royal Borough of Kingston. We can give you  information about the benefits of registration.

Services offered by the Team

We offer a range of services, including:

  • Information, support and advice
  • An assessment of your needs
  • Rehabilitation, training and equipment to help you to be as independent as possible
  • Mobility training and equipment
  • Teaching of Braille, Moon and typing
  • Information and advice on accessible computer software
  • A Resource Room stocked with many useful pieces of equipment to try out

People of all ages who live in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames can make use of our services. If you live outside the Royal Borough of Kingston we can give you a contact for the services in your local area.

Kingston Association for the Blind - offers a range of services to visually impaired people living in the Royal Borough of Kingston including 3 Blind Clubs, Eye Contact (a self help group), a befriending scheme (Eye Buddy scheme), and a weekly Talking Newspaper.
