Unfortunately the Kingston in Bloom competition will no longer run in 2012.
Public services are under unprecedented financial pressure due to the Government’s deficit reduction programme.
As a result of this, the Council has to prioritise its work to focus on those things that matter the most and make sure we do them well, but this also means that we will have to do some things less or not at all. Kingston in Bloom falls into this category because it cannot be considered an essential service by residents.
The Council will continue to work on maintaining and improving the borough’s public green spaces and public wayside gardens in partnership with our contractors. Private gardens also make our borough greener and more sustainable so please continue to make the best of the space you have got.
If you think you, or a community group, would be interested in taking on the competition or something like it in the future, and would like help and support to get started please contact the Council’s Information and Advice Centre on environment@rbk.kingston.gov.uk or call 020 8547 5002.
Don’t forget to continue using our sustainability principles to focus on your garden as a biodiversity source for British wildlife, and please spread the message to your friends and neighbours.
