Just follow these simple action points for cutting down on Christmas waste.
Ten tips for a green Christmas
- Do not send a traditional card but use an electronic card instead
- Stop using plastic Christmas decorations.
- Use LED lights which use 80-90% less energy compared to old light bulbs.
- Plan your shopping trip. Go where you need to go but do all your shopping at once to avoid repeat journeys.
- Do you really need another plastic bag? Reuse the ones you have.
- Pack your presents in ordinary gift wrapping. Be creative - use newspaper or colourful pages from magazines and use string or ribbon instead of sellotape.
- Buy alternative Christmas presents such as gift certificates to charitable organizations.
- Buy a real Christmas tree with roots so it will live to see another Christmas.
- Don’t use disposable plates, cups or serviettes.
- Use an ecological washing up liquid or dishwasher tablets.
Finally we wish you all a happy festive season and remember, even one drink could take you over the drink drive limit! So when out celebrating leave the car at home and take the bus or train instead - the green and the safe option.
