Building Control Pre-Application Advice

As an independent, publicly accountable body we aim to use our knowledge and experience to add value to your project and achieve compliance with regulatory standards in the most effective manner.
As Building Regulation requirements become ever more detailed and complex, in order to avoid costly late design changes, early professional and co-ordinated input has never been so important. We recognise that for many customers, particularly those involved with major or complex developments, the opportunity to discuss and agree in total confidence, some of the fundamental design issues and principles at the early stages of a project are invaluable. Whilst there is provision for pre-application advice to be chargeable under the regulations, it is not our practice to request payments in circumstances where there is a commitment to utilitise our services.
We therefore welcome early contact during the design phase of your project. If you are planning a smaller scale building project without any professional assistance, please note that our service cannot extend to designing the scheme. Ultimately we are an independent checking authority and you may therefore wish to appoint a knowledgeable agent to develop a design for your proposals before seeking pre-application advice.
