What is Age Hate Crime?
Age Hate crime is an incident which is perceived by the victim or any other person to be motivated on the grounds of the victim's age. The Crown Prosecution Service has issued a new policy on prosecuting crimes against older people and in this policy they define the range of crimes which older people may experience as:
Age Concern says:
“Harassment, or bullying, based on someone’s age will be unlawful under the new law. The legal meaning of harassment is unwanted conduct, on the grounds of age, which has the purpose or effect of violating a person’s dignity, or creating an intimidating, humiliating or offensive environment for that person.”
