Exceptional Assistance with School Uniform Costs
School uniform grants are available in cases of exceptional circumstances to help parents buy school uniforms for their children who are living and going to school in the borough of Kingston.
Amount of award for 2011/12
Primary school children amount payable: £35.00
Pupils under 15 years of age on 1/8/11 amount payable: £51.00
Pupils 15 years of age or over on 1/8/11 amount payable: £56.00
Upper age limit is 16 at the preceding: 31 August 2011

Who is eligible?
Applicants must also satisfy the following criteria:
- be a parent / carer of a child registered for free school meals;
- be in exceptional circumstances, such as urgent family relocation, for example through domestic violence or other crisis or the need to move a pupil unexpectedly from one school to another to address their educational or medical needs;
- be living in the same household in Kingston as the pupil;
- not be entitled to any other allowance for pupil’s clothing
- have their claim supported by a letter from a professional such as their doctor, social worker or Head Teacher confirming circumstances and their parental/carer responsibilities.
Funds are strictly limited and are unlikely to be sufficient to meet the demand. Payments will therefore need to be targeted at those in the greatest need.
