Kingston upon Thames has 48 councillors who are elected every four years by the people who live in the Borough. Councillors each represent a local area in the Borough known as a ward. There are 16 wards and each ward has 3 councillors.

The Council consists of 48 members, 25 Liberal Democrats, 21 Conservatives, 1 Labour and 1 Independent .
