Walking to School Campaign

Kingston Council hold Walking to School campaigns to encourage more children and their parents to walk.

All children in Reception to Year 6 are encouraged to take part in the campaign, which is promoted by our Road Safety friend, Debra the Zebra.

During Walking to School Week, Debra the Zebra will often make an appearance at school assemblies, to reinforce the benefits of walking, including:-

  • teaching pedestrian skills
  • encouraging parents and children to take regular exercise
  • cutting congestion on the roads
  • helping to improve air quality around schools.

These environmental health and road safety messages are reinforced by a set of campaign materials featuring Debra the Zebra.

Each participating school receives supplies for each student in Reception through to Year 6, including posters, stickers, an activity for students to undertake and a reward.
